After a pint or two we returned back down Brick Lane in search of the nearest offie to the indian Tayabbs in Fieldgate St. It was closed! It was with much relief that we found one right next door to the Indian!
Tayabbs takes up 3 floors and is one of the most popular we’ve ever been to, evident by the huge queues as we left.
A list of our main dishes choices was handed over to the waiter which speeded up the service; not that it needed to go any faster. A corkscrew with a blocked up bottle opener was handed to us to open our bottles, Thankfully we found one that worked. Keithee, JC, DC and Sean made a note on their phones.
The service was indeed fast and efficient although the plates were cold and only plain pilau was available. How come they do Keema nan but not Keema rice!! Overall it all went down very well with only one complainant throughout.
Tonys daughter Helen joined us slightly late, along with her partner Eugene.
London 4th Nov 2022 - A rip roaring blast
Up for it were-
Yup, Goosey, Sean, JayCee, Granpop Bill, DC, Sid, Bolt, Richee, Keithee, Tony, Huge, Mothy and Nails. (Helen and Eugene late arrivals)
After a good journey to Euston, we encountered a minor delay before catching the underground to the Borough Market, as Yuppy’s oyster card hadn’t been credited, despite him trying to resolve it the day before.
Inevitably, there was a large cheer as he passed through the barriers.
As per the revised itinerary we began at the Market Porter in the Borough Market, where beers and pies were the norm.
There was time to try a new ale house; The Rake, which was met with mixed reviews. The prices however were considerably cheaper than the Market Porter.
Back on terra firma we crossed the Thames again to the nearest ale house in that area, The Anchor Tap; a Sam Smiths pub.
Richee got on like a house on fire with the landlord. We were tempted to leave him there but he gave chase and joined us after just one quick drink.
We crossed Tower Bridge again and spotted our boat below returning after another outing.
We caught the tube to Aldgate East and meandered up Brick Lane to find the Brick Lane Tap House. Probably our favourite of the day.
Huge was so excited he wet his pants......
Next up was just a visit to the Euston Tap before catching the train home. Surely nothing could go wrong now.
Well.......... we were faced with an information board full of cancellations as we entered the heaving concourse. After mulling over the alternatives for half an hour our train was unbelievably announced as being available. A stampede ensued just as Granpop Bill went missing for a loo visit! After a few frantic calls Bill appeared and jumped aboard with a shrug of his shoulders. ‘I’ve made it youth’.
Home half an hour later than planned but we all made it.
Another cracking day out. Next year, Battersea…….
Cheers
Yuppers
We crossed the river to the Millennium Tower Pier where we donned life jackets before the Ultimate Blast arrived. Yups jacket had a life of it’s own and proved to be troublesome.
The weather couldn’t have been better; maybe slightly warmer for Yup, but the sun was shining throughout the trip. The Ultimate tower RIB Blast set off gently down the Thames towards the Barrier and soon began to rock and roll. There were no wheelies or somersaults but enough to get the adrenaline flowing.
